OUR STORY
Our Puppies Are Our Passion
Howdy! Thank you for wanting to learn more about us! We are Michael and Brandy Meisheid. We reside on a small farm outside of Coggon, Iowa with our fur babies: Willow, Maple, Rowan, Aspen and Hazel and our human babes, Zach and Weston. We enjoy hiking at local parks, riding around with the four wheeler, snuggling and doing photo shoots with our pups; and we are okay with people thinking that we are obsessed with them...because we are!

ABOUT BLUE CREEK GOLDENS
Blue Creek Goldens started in the fall of 2015 when Michael and Brandy took in Brandy's sister's dog, Wyatt, when she moved to college. They later added Willow, who was the only puppy from her litter of 14 that hadn’t been “picked” as a companion for Wyatt in spring of 2016. Soon after, they added Maple, who was being rehomed as a puppy due to her current family having health issues and no longer able to care for her. In the fall of 2019, they added Rowen to the family, who was being rehomed after a college student decided a puppy was not a good decision in an apartment after all. And Hazel came to them in the spring of 2020 from a family who was rehoming her because they had too many dogs.

Long story short, their puppies always had a way of FINDING THEM!
Having puppies was never the original plan...
When they first got Maple and Willow, like any dog mom, Brandy made them social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram. It wasn't long after that when Brandy found her passion for dogs and photography had collided and had created something that people really enjoyed following along with! After that, people started reaching out, inquiring about puppies, so Brandy and Micahel decided to try it once; it sounded like fun. Little did they know that it would end up being something they loved every second of! From raising the puppies to picking/meeting families to sharing their love of their own dogs with others, it has evolved into a true passion from every angle.

So, after serious consideration, Brandy and Michael chose to raise puppies with one simple goal in mind: to bring the same love and joy into your home that they get to experience in theirs every day.

Then along came the human babes...
Brandy and Michael always thought that once they retired Willow, Hazel and Maple, that would be the end of their puppy journey. However, after having their two boys, they found there was truly something special about watching them grow up with the puppies and playing with Willow, Hazel, Maple and Rowan. So, for Zach's birthday, Brandy and Michael added Aspen to the family!

So what's the long-term plan?
To be honest, Brandy and Michael aren't really sure. They want to raise puppies in a way that is responsible and allows them to keep all their mama's forever...so there will eventually be a limit, and likely, and end date. However, as long as their dogs are happy and healthy and their kids can learn to love and care for animals (and learn the responsibilities that come with pets), they plan to continue with their passion of raising well-loved golden retriever pups!

Life Changes... April 2025
In April of 2025, we decided to take a pause from breeding. With all of life’s blessings, our hearts and hands were full with two little ones taking center stage in our lives. And as they say.. "babies don't keep".

We spent the summer, soaking up days filled with kids, family time and our beloved dogs. It was a blessing to slow down and just be together.

But then...

But then came one of those sweet, unexpected moments — our oldest said, “Mom, I want a swing set and puppies again.” (The swing set took a tumble last year.. That’s another story..)
We’ve always said that if our kids showed interest, we’d share this journey with them. And after much thought, we’ve decided that the future of BCG might look a little different than we originally planned..

Maybe a litter every now and then would be a better fit for our family.
Perhaps one a year, maybe less.
No set schedule, just thoughtful, cycle-by-cycle decisions that fit with family life.

So, what does that mean for you? It means we will have litters but when and how often is for us to decide as each moment comes. So please, reach out, inquire, ask all the questions and we will just let you know where we are at and what the future plans look like. We are excited to continue to bring BCG pups into people's lives in a way that allows us to be present for our kids and our dogs in the most meaningful way!

The Final Chapter

While we originally planned to semi retire, Aspen experienced mastitis that led to the removal of several mammary glands. Continuing to breed her would not be ethical, in our eyes, and our dogs health and happiness have always come first. And she of course, is our last mama not already enjoying retirement.
After a great deal of thought (again), we have made the decision to officially retire from breeding Golden Retrievers.

From the beginning, we have believed that our dogs lead the way. We have always reserved the right to step back from breeding if a mama was not ready, physically or emotionally. Aspen made that decision clear, and it was our responsibility to listen.

We are deeply grateful to the families who trusted us and loved our puppies so well. Thank you for being part of our journey and for understanding as we close this chapter with gratitude and love.

Love Always,
Brandy and Michael
